Each year, Mission Africa embarks on a medical mission trip to Sapele, Nigeria. The people in this community face many health challenges, mostly relating to the cost of care, access to care, and a lack of sanitation that leads to poor health. For example, 70% of the city lives in poverty and is unable to receive routine medical screenings. As a whole, Nigeria has one of the ten worst infant mortality rates worldwide with only 8% of births being attended to by a skilled professional. Additionally, only 17% of children under age one have been vaccinated for measles. Combine this with 70% of the population of Sapele unable to drink safe water and 90% with inadequate sanitation and it’s easy to see the need for healthcare interventions.

Through Mission Africa’s efforts, these mission trips bring the community greatly needed medical supplies and equipment, screenings, and healthcare services. In partnership with Dr. E. Sagay and the Sapele Clinic, Mission Africa is helping to ensure residents receive routine tests and vaccinations.
